Tapestry Learning Journal

In Year 1 at Mayfield we use Tapestry Online Learning Journal to record, share and assess the children’s progress and development

To login to your child’s account please visit the Tapestry website here or download the App on a smartphone or tablet.

The Tapestry YouTube channel has lots of helpful information about how to use the website/App.

We expect that parents look at, respond to, and add observations of home learning from outside of school to give a full and varied picture of each child’s learning journey.

Throughout lockdown it would be fantastic to see a variety of observations from home each week:

  • videos of your child reading (doesn’t need to be a long clip, but it really helps us understand the level at which they’re working)
  • writing they have done (with a note of the help you provided, what they found tricky etc.)
  • maths they have done (cooking, measuring, building as well as school based activities, and like with the writing, help and support you provided)
  • art and design (model making, painting, drawing etc.)

How to make a good Tapestry observation

1 If it’s not a video, provide a brief description of what was happening.

2 Ask yourself, what does this mean for my child’s learning? Does it show progress, or explain where they might be finding something challenging?

3 Include your role – did your child do it independently? Did you support them? If so, how? This really helps us see where your child is excelling and where they need a helping hand.

4 Spot something new –

  • a news skill they’ve learnt
  • an emerging interest
  • a new challenge they’re facing

5 Ask us questions! If you would like our opinion/help with something add it into the observation – we’re here to support you.

WOW moments

We like to see the other stuff too. The learning that wasn’t set by us but that is of equal importance to your child. These can be a quick photo of something they’ve enjoyed or want to show us because they’re feeling proud
